Bay-Waveland Habitat for Humanity
Dedicates 100th Home to Silver Slipper Employees
Hancock County – February 23, 2009 – Bay-Waveland Habitat for Humanity dedicated their 99th and 100th completed homes to Silver Slipper Casino employees, Walter Dardar and Kevin Landry respectively, on Friday, February 20th. Like so many throughout the Mississippi Gulf Coast, the two Slipper cooks lost their homes to Katrina in 2005 and have been struggling ever since to recover. The two homes, located at 6148 Forrest Street in the Bayside Park community of Bay St. Louis, mark a milestone, not only for them and Habitat but for the community’s rebuilding efforts, as well.
Silver Slipper Casino served lunch to over 130 volunteers, partner families and community leaders who participated in the dedication. “We’re extremely appreciative of Habitat and their efforts to not only to help
Walter and Kevin, but to help rebuild Hancock County and the Mississippi Gulf Coast,”
said John N. Ferrucci, COO and General Manager for Silver Slipper Casino. “We were more than happy to participate in Friday’s celebration in support of everything they have done for our community.”
The walls of the 100th Habitat home were raised on Monday, February 16, by volunteers, partner families and
Bay-Waveland Habitat staff. Since beginning in Hancock County in 2006, over 3,000 Habitat for Humanity
volunteers from throughout the country have worked tirelessly to build 100 homes, providing housing for approximately 275 residents |
